Online & Hybrid Library Support Assessment Survey-Student AY 2012: Introduction

This guide contains data and analysis of a survey sent out to students taking online and hybrid classes that had an embedded course librarian for the 2011-2012 Academic Year.

Introduction

Expanding library services to online and hybrid courses is the next logical step for the Melvin J Zahnow Library as Saginaw Valley State University offers more of these classes. During the 2011-2012 Academic Year, SVSU librarians were embedded into 76 classes.

During the 2011-2012 Academic Year, Zahnow Library conducted a survey of Online and Hybrid Library Support in Courses. This survey will be used to both grow this program and to make recommended changes based on student feedback.

140 students that were enrolled in a class with an Online Course Librarian embedded responded to the survey. Student responses were tabulated and open ended question responses were categorized in order to analyze trends in answers.

The data shows that students were satisfied with the Online Course Librarian program and found it to help them in their course work.

Major Recommendations

  • Increase usability of online services including the library website
  • Investigate how well the library online services work with screen readers
  • Ensure that the program is scalable for future years
  • Share assessment results with faculty that participated in the Online Course Librarian Program
