Zahnow Library Accessibility & Accommodations

The purpose of this subject guide is to familiarize Zahnow Library users with the available library accessibility resources & accommodations.

The library aims to acquire resources and technologies that are accessible to all and compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Services

Retrieval of Library Materials

Any patron who needs assistance retrieving library materials may contact the library staff at Circulation Desk on the first floor in person, via email SVSU_Library@svsu.edu or phone 989.964.4240.

Research Assistance

Research librarians are available to assist patrons with accessibility needs. Contact librarians via chat, email or text 989.292.3902. Patrons with extended research needs should fill out a Research Consultation Request.

Instruction

The Research and Instruction Librarian, in conjunction with the faculty and the Office of Accessibility Resources & Accommodations, will arrange for library instruction material to be modified as needed for disabled students.

Study Rooms

Group study rooms are available on the 1st, 3rd and 4th floor. Schedule a Study Room to reserve a 2 hour block of time.

Digital Resources

Most streaming videos from AVON and Kanopy contain closed captioning. DVDs with closed captioning are noted in the Library Catalog.

Equipment

Equipment

  • Amigo power scooters (2) provided by the Office of Accessibility Resources and Accommodations (ARA) and available for daily check-out at the Circulation Desk on a first come - first served basis.
  • Headphones are available for check out with a valid SVSU ID. 
  • Printers are located on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors.
  • Telephones on the 3rd, & 4th floors, located by the stairwell, to facilitate patron requests.

Facilities & Maps

The library and collections are wheelchair accessible. There is an elevator and powered doors at all major entrances.

Facilities

  • 4th floor is a quiet study area and the Roberta R. Allen Reading Room is a silent space (unless it is closed for events).
  • 3rd floor has a quiet study alcove with dimmed lighting.
  • Braille signage in elevators and throughout the library.
  • Dimmed lighting is available in the study rooms.
  • Accessible bathroom stalls on all floors.
  • Powered door for 4th floor women's restroom.
