Research Tips

The Library homepage has a search box that is a great place to start your research.

 

Begin by entering key words related to your research question into the search box. Often, you will need to combine words or phrases. These are called Boolean searches. Boolean searches use the connecting words AND, OR, and NOT. Here are some examples of Boolean searches: assessment AND instruction time, assessment OR measurement, and assessment NOT standardized testing. 

 

When using databases, it's helpful to know that each database has its own thesaurus. Therefore, a concept named as something in one database may be referred to by another name in another database. Luckily, you have access to these thesauri. For Ebsco-based databases (which most of the Education databases are), click "Subjects" (see the red arrow below).
