First draft of outline for FIRE IN THE SOUL/A PLACE CALLED FREEDOM with handwritten notes. (Image 1) The first part of the novel describes the plight of Scottish coal miners who were slaves. Young Mack McAsh will grow to become a defiant miner... (Image 2) ...and will find himself in conflict with the local coal-mining family... (Image 3) ...and its youngest son, Jay Jamisson. Both men vie for the attentions of Lizzie Hallam, high-born but as defiant and independent-minded as Mack.
