During the Fall 2020 semester, the library conducted a survey of SVSU faculty about their awareness and use of Open Educational Resources. The survey was sent to all faculty via email and 54 people responded.

Departments

Many departments were represented with Mathematics, Psychology and Teacher Education providing the most responses.

Awareness

The majority of respondents, 70%, are aware of OER or somewhat aware of OER and only 11% said they were unaware of OER.

Usage

Slightly less than half of the faculty indicated that they are currently using OER in their courses. Most use OER as required course material.

Future Use

Of the 30 faculty who are not currently using OER, 80% said they would consider using it in the next three years.

Impacts on Use

Most faculty indicated that the availability and quality of the resources would impact their decision about using OER. Only three respondents specified grant funding for transitioning to OER. Other comments included the time commitment of adopting OER and departmental decisions.
