Reserving the Z-111 Active Learning Lab

The library active learning lab (Z-111) is located on the first floor of the Melvin J. Zahnow Library.  The lab currently includes:

  • 40 seats
  • 20 tables (mobile/movable)
  • 60 wireless laptops (Laptops do not leave Z-111 and are the responsibility of the requester)
  • These wireless laptops do not checkout and are used only during scheduled lab sessions
  • The laptop carts can be unlocked by library staff at the Circulation Desk or Research Center.
  • an instructor podium
  • overhead projection unit
  • various software programs
  • an interactive whiteboard and various sizes of portable whiteboards

Lab hours coincide with library hours.

POLICY FOR RESERVING AND USING THE Z-111 FOR NON-LIBRARY ACTIVITIES:

Only SVSU faculty, staff and students from SVSU registered student organizations (RSOs) can reserve the library computer lab (Z-111) for non-library activities. Restricted hours may apply.

Reservations for library instruction sessions take priority over all other activities. Therefore, requests to use the lab for other purposes are subject to change if the lab is needed for a library instruction session.

Confirmed reservations will be rescheduled if the lab is needed for a library instruction session.

All requests to reserve Z-111 for online exams or other non-library related activities must be sent to and confirmed by Catherine Curtis or a library designee.

Faculty who reserve Z-111 for online exams must be present during testing or make arrangements on their own for an exam proctor.

SVSU courses requiring computer lab use cannot be scheduled more than five times per semester and must be scheduled on non-consecutive dates.

Cancellation of reservations must be directed to Catherine Curtis (ccurtis@svsu.edu) or library designee prior to the reservation time.  Failure to cancel lab reservations may result in denial of future use.

Reservations should be made at least 2 weeks in advance to ensure that the lab is available. During peak periods in the fall and winter semesters, it is recommended reservations be made 3-4 weeks in advance. Last minute requests may not be approved.

Confirmed reservations will be rescheduled if the lab is needed for library instruction.
