Electronic Resources, Print Periodicals & Library Technology Unit

This is a public guide providing information about the e-resources & systems unit at Zahnow Library.

For all E-resources:

  • Maintain administrative aspects of the library's online resources.
  • Obtain usage data with the assistance of the Periodicals Assistant.
  • Coordinate with vendors of products with IP changes.
  • Troubleshooting and employing the assistance of vendor support in resolution when necessary. This involves testing of resources for on and off campus access and responding to reports of errors, immediately or ASAP, more often than not.
  • Provide support and direction to staff when requested or a need is obvious.
  • Develop, review and maintain documentation of procedures.

Electronic Resources Management System (ERM)

  • Create and maintain Resource Records.
  • Create and maintain License Records.
  • Create and maintain Contact Records.
  • Collaborate with Cataloging as necessary regarding creation of or revision of catalog bib records where applicable. 
  • Provide direction and informal supervision to the Periodicals Assistant in the creation of ERM records.

Systems

  • Maintain proxy server URLs for online access to subscribed publications in collaboration with the Library Technology Specialist.
  • Refresh server regularly.

Databases

  • Collaborate with the Collection Development Librarian and Subject Liaisons on new databases for trial and subscription. 
  • Provide direction and informal supervision of the Periodicals Assistant in gathering and entering usage data into the e-resources statistics spreadsheet.

Link resolver & AtoZ online journal list: Publication Finder – Full Text Finder 

  • Enable or add custom links and maintain links to electronic journals in Publication Finder. 
  • Check links for link rot or link change in provider packages or assign this to other staff (e.g., Periodicals Assistant, student workers).
  • Assess usability of product in collaboration with the Assessment Librarian (to be determined)

Discovery System (EDS)

  • Collaborate with Technical Services and Research Services to provide access to multiple resources.
  • Ensuring that linking to resources is accurate. 

Ebooks

  • Identify ebooks / collections within the library for possible inclusion in the library catalog.
  • Provide staff support and direction in access models (DDA, subscription, single user, multi-user, etc.)
