Music: Antiquity Bibliography

Helping you find music resources in Zahnow Library

Search tips

  • Try spellings of foreign surnames names without accents and diacritics. Sometimes, search engines are not able to deal with them.
  • Try spellings of general terms (i.e. Mass) in different languages. Example: Missa, Messe, Mass.
  • Prominent scholars include: Richard Crocker, Jeremy Yudkin, Stanley Sadie, Timothy J. McGee, Egon Wellesz, Claude V. Palisca, Hans Tischler, and Joseph Kerman.

Major composers

Most surviving fragments have not been able to have their composer identified. The two major antiquarian Greek works are Epitaph of Seikilos and choruses from Euripides' Orestes.
