Online Course Support Librarian Program Assessment 2018: Usage Information

This guide provides the data, analysis and results of the student survey for the Online Course Support Librarian Program.

Usage Information Analysis

194 Students responded to the survey and 124 or 64% of the students answered yes to the question "Did you contact the online course librarian for assistance?" This is number has steadily increased since 2012 when percentage was 48% and 2015 when it was 59%.

The next question in the survey was "Which library services have you used prior to this course?" We rephrased this question from 2015's survey because there was some confusion with including course librarian as an option of resources or services used in their online/hybrid course. An optional answer to this survey question was: Taken a course with an Online Course Librarian this option was chosen 36 times. This is helpful to know because that means more students are becoming aware of an online course librarian being embedded into their course although we still have more marketing to do.

The next question was "Which online course resources or services did you use in this course?" This question helps us determine which resources the students are using. Databases are the most popular resource, but customized subject/research guides use is good as well.

Over 88% of students who responded to the survey accessed library materials by the library link on the main SVSU Web page. This is important because it shows that even though there is a direct link provided in Canvas that most students still access the library resources through the link of the main SVSU web page. This again speaks to better marketing of our program in our communication with the students.

Question 1: Did you contact the online course librarian for assistance?
