Circulation Home Page: Bookdrops/Pulls & Bills/Patron & Alarm Counts

Circulation procedures and policies to be used by student employees and staff.

Patron & Alarm Counts

At opening, after the first half hour, before the last half hour and at closing the Patron and Alarm Counts are taken.  To complete this task locate the clip board at the left end of the Circulation Desk.  Go to the security gate on the 1st floor, on the inside of the furthest panel there is a readout that rotates figures between P (patron) and A (alarm).  Write the patron figure in the correct day and time box.  After approximately 30 seconds the readout will switch to alarm.  Write this figure in the corresponding day and time box.  Go to the 2nd floor security gate and repeat this process.

Bookdrops

At opening, 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. bookdrops are checked.  To complete this task locate the keys in the right drawer under the cash register, the key chain has a blue house on it.  Collect returned items from the 1st floor entrance, the 2nd floor entrance and outside in the D parking lot.  Check the items in (see Checkin tab for instructions) and return the keys to the drawer.

Pulls & Bills

At opening and when the 2nd shift supervisor arrives pull slips are printed for items patrons have placed on hold and for items that patrons from other libraries have ordered through MeL or ILLiad.  When given these slips retrieve the items from the stacks (placing the slip inside) and return the items to the supervisor on duty.

Bills are also printed at opening.  When given these slips check for the items in the stacks.  If you locate the items put the slips inside and give them to the supervisor on duty.  If you can not locate the items put the slips in an inter-office mail envelope for patrons who live or who have offices on campus and write the patrons name and location on the outside of the envelope.  For patrons who live off campus fold the slip so that the address appears in one of our windowed envelopes (you do not need to seal the envelope).  Envelopes are located on the shelving outside of the supervisor office and next to the blue media return cart.  Put the envelopes in the out-going mail bin in the Administrative Office on the 2nd floor of the library.
